Hikkaduwa

Hikkaduwa is a small and the most popular beach town in Sri Lanka. It is famous for diving, surfing, board surfing, and other marine sports as well as a nightlife. It developed as a resort town since it has the biggest area of corals in Sri Lanka that attracts many visitors.

Hikkaduwa was originally a hippy hangout place in the 1970’s. At one point it had a nude beach, but later it was abandoned. Now, hippies were gone, but this little town was developed based on the unique history. There are from high-class resort hotels to many guesthouses range around Rs. 1,000 per night.

    There are many diving stations including Poseidon Diving Station and Scuba Safari. The diving season is between Novembers to April.

    There is a place called Rocky Island, located 200m offshore. The water is much clear and able to enjoy seeing coral and tropical fish. Tours are usually run by hotels.

  • Surfing, window surfing, body board

    The season is between mid Octobers to mid March. It is one of the few famous surf point.

    There are many tours going to the Rocky island.
